The 2024 Business Impact Awards brings together industry leaders, corporate members with exciting business opportunities, our distinguished nominees, and past award winners. For the first time, we are thrilled to host this prestigious event in Tampa.
Armature Works, a historic venue overlooking the stunning Tampa Bay, will offer an intimate yet elegant setting for networking, cocktails, and delectable passed hors d’oeuvres. Civil Mafia’s founder and CEO, Flor Palazzolo, emigrated from Argentina to the US 12 years ago. DraftPros is a minority-owned engineering and construction firm backed by over 50 years of experience. The company’s team thrives on creative and efficient solutions, matching expertise with local and corporate needs. Under the leadership of CEO Karel Gomez, draftPros and the Junior Achievement (JA) Pre-Apprenticeship Program have embarked on the long-term goal of adding broadband and telecommunications to the career pathway opportunities of the students they serve. However, draftPros has contributed so much more as part of this journey, including speaking to the students and being the title sponsor of the 2023 Graduation Ceremony of Pre-Apprentices. Not only did this allow JA the opportunity to truly celebrate the hard work of the students in the program, but it also freed up funds that they then used to acquire uniforms and tool kits to help set their graduates up for success during their new-hire process.
eSmart Recycling
eSmart Recycling transforms organizations’ legacy equipment, excess inventory and technology surplus into catalysts for change, combining environmental sustainability and social-impact metrics. This results in a holistic approach to offsetting carbon emissions through recycling technology, at both corporate and residential levels, and also in the empowerment of local communities by enabling access to technology and education. Many organizations have a plan in place to dispose of their old equipment, yet most of them fail to recognize the incredible opportunity that is hidden in that process to truly maximize its benefit. eSmart Recycling finds creative ways to monetize and generate revenue on most of the inbound material it receives. Then, a large portion of the revenue helps fund technology incubators for children without access to resources, both in the local community and worldwide. This includes setting up computer labs in Tampa in collaboration with more than 50 nonprofit organizations.

By manufacturing its products in the USA, the company ensures high-quality standards and supports domestic manufacturing jobs. Additionally, its innovative programs such as CaaS and CoreX provide tailored solutions to meet the specific needs of its customers, enhancing efficiency and environmental responsibility. Through these efforts, FleetGenius not only helps businesses manage waste more effectively, but it also contributes to the broader goal of creating a cleaner, more sustainable community.
GLT Logistics
GLT Logistics’ proactive approach, driven by its dedicated team, shows its commitment to social responsibility. In 2023, it launched the #EveryActionMatters movement to inspire stakeholders to believe that every action, no matter how small, can impact and change the world. In this initiative, the leadership of CMOplayed a critical role in starting GLT’s partnership with the foundation Delivering Better Lives. It aimed to contribute to the foundation’s mission of improving shelter in local communities. The goal was to renovate a cottage at His House Children’s Home, a haven for foster children. Notably, in Florida, 20,993 children are in foster care, with 1,162 finding stability at His House. GLT aimed to inspire its logistics community to join in the cause of restoring the lives of children in foster care. GLT made a financial donation, while customers and team members donated their time and supplies for this cause, experiencing the satisfaction of collaborating in decorating and organizing the location after the renovation.
Phone and Pad Warehouse
Phone & Pad Warehouse, which specializes in repairing, refurbishing and resale of smartphones and tablets, is dedicated to educating and empowering the next generation of IT professionals. Its long-term goal of hiring students from local high schools and tech schools has been successful; Phone & Pad Warehouse has been able to employ four students since 2022, with three of them still working with the company. It is equally busy working with the Miami-Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS) Office of Economic Opportunity, delivering presentations at nearly 40 different engagements to educate small businesses on how to secure contracts with MDCPS. Through its efforts, Phone & Pad Warehouse has supported many small businesses in submitting bids, and three of these businesses have been awarded contracts.

The Flying Classroom LLC is an innovative educational organization dedicated to enhancing STEM learning through immersive, hands-on experiences. Founded by Captain Barrington Irving, the youngest person and first Black pilot to fly solo around the world, The Flying Classroom integrates real-world aviation and exploration into the curriculum. Its programs are designed to inspire students and educators alike, fostering a passion for science, technology, engineering and mathematics. By combining adventure with education, The Flying Classroom aims to make learning engaging and impactful, preparing students for future careers in STEM fields. The organization’s commitment to excellence and creativity makes it a leader in experiential and inspirational education.
Thierer
Thierer LLC, through the Thierer Family Foundation, is deeply committed to serving the community by leveraging technology to address food insecurity. The company developed Vivery technology, which digitizes access to food, making it easier for people to find and access nutritious food and related services. Vivery collaborates with food banks and pantries across the nation, providing them with modern digital tools and a centralized food map to ensure up-to-date information is available online. This initiative has significantly improved the efficiency and reach of food-assistance programs, helping millions of people in need. By bridging the digital gap, Thierer LLC is making a substantial impact on the lives of those facing food insecurity.

Trydent Consulting guides its clients through the necessary steps of the business formation and evolution process with the goal of empowering small-business owners with essential resources that move entities and transform lives. Its professionals specialize in nonattest accounting services, financial consulting, business management, strategic planning, human resources and other specialized fields. Trydent also prioritizes safe spaces for the consultants, clients and community. Epitomizing the principle of “Doing Well While Doing Good,” the company’s unwavering commitment to using its skills to serve the communities in which it operates is at the core of Trydent’s identity and mission. Berlon Hamilton
Berlon Hamilton serves as the Director of Supplier Diversity at Cleveland Clinic, where he plays a pivotal role in fostering diversity and inclusion within the organization’s supply chain. His efforts are focused on creating opportunities for diverse suppliers to engage with the healthcare sector, ensuring that local businesses can thrive and contribute to the community. One of his notable initiatives is the Diversity Equity Inclusion (DEI) Supplier Accelerator program, which he helped launch in collaboration with university hospitals. This program aims to mentor and prepare diverse-owned companies for successful partnerships with large hospital systems, providing them with insights into finance, marketing and human resources. Hamilton’s dedication to supplier diversity not only supports local economies but also reinforces Cleveland Clinic’s commitment to inclusive business practices.
Carla McKinney
Carla McKinney, of the Walt Disney Corporation, has a professional background in supply chain and logistics spanning 30 years in supply chain, warehouse operations, and supplier and mentor development (both internally and externally) in the automotive and entertainment industries. She has a drive for connecting diverse suppliers with corporations as thought partners to create sustainable working relationships.
Her opportunity to collaborate with the MBE Input Committee for Central Florida has been a pleasure, as has serving as an Advisory Council Member to assist with the first launch in January 2024. The passion of the business owners to charter new territories in order “to be the change in the difference they wanted to see” spoke to her personally and professionally. McKinney collaborated on and hosted an event at Disney Springs with Xelsior Group and MBE Input of Central Florida; it was the first MBE-to-MBE opportunity for scaling their own businesses.
Desirée Hanson
Desiree Hanson serves as the Manager of Supplier Diversity at Moffitt Cancer Center. She has over 30 years of experience in supply chain management across various sectors, including manufacturing, IT and healthcare. At Moffitt, Hanson is responsible for developing and implementing the center’s Supplier Diversity Program, which aims to include and utilize diverse suppliers in procurement processes. Her efforts have earned Moffitt numerous awards and recognition for supplier diversity. Before joining Moffitt in 2009, she managed supplier diversity at the University of South Florida and held various roles in public and private sectors.
Jessica McMahan
After spending five years in Brasfield & Gorrie’s Preconstruction Department, Jessica McMahan shifted to the Corporate Responsibility Department to reconnect with her roots in social work and pursue her passion of helping people. Now, as the Senior Supplier Diversity Manager since 2021, she leads the company’s efforts to recruit underrepresented talent, promote supplier and trade contractor inclusion, and increase inclusive leadership development.
Beyond facilitating relationships with diversity industry and trade associations on a personal level, McMahan has become a go-to representative for Brasfield & Gorrie at professional and community events. She’s the president of the board for the Georgia chapter of the US Minority Contractors Association, she co-chairs the programs/education committee for the Atlanta chapter of the National Association of Minority Contractors, she co-chairs the communications committee for the National Minority Supplier Development Council’s Construction Industry Advisory Group, and she’s on the social responsibility committee for the Georgia Hispanic Contractors.
Kourey Hendryx-Bell
Kourey Hendryx-Bell serves as the Contracts Compliance Coordinator for the city of St. Petersburg, Florida. In this role, Kourey is responsible for ensuring that all contracts comply with city regulations and standards. With a background in mortgage servicing and legal internships, Hendryx-Bell empowers small businesses owned by minorities and women by offering support, resources and a pathway to new business opportunities. She has been with the city of St. Petersburg since 2019, contributing significantly to the city’s procurement and compliance efforts. Hendryx-Bell’s dedication to her role highlights her commitment to maintaining high standards and supporting the city’s operational integrity.
Letisia Robinson
Letisia Robinson is the Supplier Diversity Office Lead at Florida Blue. Since she earned this role in 2016, she has played a crucial part in promoting diversity within the company’s supplier base. Florida Blue, a prominent health insurance provider, has been committed to helping people and communities achieve better health for over 75 years. Robinson’s efforts contribute significantly to this mission by ensuring that the company’s suppliers reflect the diverse communities they serve. Her leadership in this area underscores Florida Blue’s dedication to inclusivity and equitable business practices.
Patricia Clarke
Patricia Clarke has had the privilege of working with the ODP Corporation for eight years, immersing herself in various roles and contributing to different departments. Currently, she serves as a Supplier Diversity Specialist, passionately supporting procurement teams and collaborating with key stakeholders across the organization to develop and execute strategies that create invaluable opportunities for diverse businesses. In close partnership with the Senior Supplier Diversity Manager, Clarke plays a pivotal role in identifying and evaluating diverse suppliers for upcoming opportunities, ensuring their smooth onboarding as valuable suppliers to the ODP Corporation.
Advocating for and supporting small and diverse suppliers has been a driving passion for Clarke since she first embarked on her journey in the field of supplier diversity. She is dedicated to cultivating robust relationships with national corporate third-party diversity councils and regional partners, fostering a network that supports growth and inclusivity.

Traneice Mills is the Senior Program Manager at Amazon. She plays a pivotal role in driving strategic and tactical projects across multiple verticals. With a strong background in project management and a proven track record of delivering complex projects, Mills is responsible for overseeing cross-functional programs, developing processes and ensuring successful execution. Her role involves coordinating with various internal and external stakeholders, leveraging data analytics to drive improvements, and communicating with senior management on project status and risks. Her expertise in navigating ambiguities and fostering collaboration has been instrumental in optimizing resource allocation and achieving key business objectives.
